Magic doesn’t exist. Shut up people.
When you see that in fat bold letters, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
Lighting up at your friends house, or preventing forest fires?
You done fucked up bear, think about the kids!
You know who gets a lot of criticism in the skate industry? Nike. But you’ll NEVER see a higher-up at Nike spill tears online over negative press, because they understand that it wouldn’t solve anything and would only make them look sensitive and offendable.
This is partly why corporations are taking over the industry - the correlation between being able to skateboard and being able to run a skateboard business is diminishing as corporations are increasing able to mimic skateboarding culture and successfully sell to the skateboarding demographic. Additionally, people in the industry are generally vain and petty, like when Phelps bans people from coverage in his mag, or when Jamie comes on here to defend himself, or when Sheckler complains about his haters.
The thing is, you don’t hear other businesses endlessly wining over their detractors, or trying to brow-beat the consumer base into liking their product. Remember how well the “Don’t do it” campaign worked? The skateboard industry wastes too much time trying to control things they can’t control. Corporations like Globe however, don’t waste any time whining online to people who don’t buy their product, they’re too busy making money. The skateboard culture and industry are so heterogeneous and fractured that they spend time arguing over silly drama and fighting themselves while corporations silently establish themselves as the dominant power players.” —Some dude on the internet
